The Australian government is to inject $9 million (£4.3 million) of funding into nine industry skill boards to combat the country's skills shortage.
Paul Caica, the employment, training and further education minister, has announced the new funding as part on an ongoing initiative to increase the number of skilled workers in Australia.
Globalvisas.com reports that the Australian Institute for Social Research estimates that south Australia needs to find an extra 13,500 workers in the coming years.
The new funding equates to a 42 per cent increase, with the primary aim of combating the lack of skilled workers in the south of the country.
Eric Ryan from globalvisas.com said: "It is great that the Australian government is recognising the need for additional funding.
"The funding will help to develop Australia's skill pool and ultimately respond to the growing needs of the work force."
A study by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown that the value of construction work in the country rose by 12 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2008, reports RTT News.
