'Jobs to be created on Shaolin temple construction'
8/07/2008(4:03 PM)

A number of jobs could be created when work begins on a new Shaolin Temple in Sydney.

Work is set to start on the $390 million (£188 million) complex early next year after the city's planning department awarded the proposal major project status.

The South Coast Register reports that all studies needed for planning approval are set to be done before the end of 2008, allowing work to start in the new year.

Patrick Pang, Australian representative of the Shaolin order, told the newspaper that the project would "provide a major financial boost for the region".

"What we want is for a lot of tourists to come down and create a lot of jobs," he said.

The construction of the complex will start with the temple, added Mr Pang, before work begins on the kung fu academy and new hotel.

In other news, building group Global Construction Services has acquired 75 per cent of Coastal Hire.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the $4.5 million investment will give Global access to Coastal's customers in Western Australia.
