Human resources (HR) salaries are set to rise in the coming year, a new report has predicted.

According to Michael Page's, Salary & Employment Forecast 08-09, wages in the sector are predicted to increase by between four and seven per cent.

The report also forecast wage rises of up to ten per cent for HR professionals changing jobs as they will have more negotiating power.

Jonathon Wiles, director of human resources at Michael Page told Human Resources Magazine: "The HR function is gaining increased recognition for its impact on business performance and we are seeing continued investment in HR to drive strategic initiatives and support business growth."

The company's research also found that more than 61 per cent of employers are planning to increase staff numbers over the next year, he added.

Around 1,500 employers and 5,500 employees took part in Michael Page's salary survey which formed the basis of the Salary & Employment Forecast.
