AFA to relaunch

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) is to relaunch itself in a bid to provide the sector with adequate representation.
Policy committees have been formed to provide advice for the 90-year-old association while experts in employment relations, corporate affairs and retail services have been recruited to give assistance.
"The ARA had lost its way and failed to deliver on promises for some time. It is our duty to take back that space and own it again," remarked ARA executive director Richard Evans.
"It is incumbent on us to represent and service members and the retail sector in policy development, employment relations, education and training, and career opportunities," he added.
The organisation is to focus on the delivery of education and training through the ARA Retail Institute and the launch of a national retail awards program, Mr Evans continued.
According to the ARA, Australia's $292 billion retail industry employs more than 1.2 million people.
Australian Food reports that the nominees for this year's Australian Retailer of the Year awards are David jones, JB Hi Fi, Noni B, Rebel Sport, Super Cheap Auto, Sussan Group, The Reject Shop and Woolworths.
